What is Kriya Yoga & Meditation?
Kriya Yoga - Perfecting the breath not the posture
The manifested form of all life is comprised of three aspects; physical, mental and spiritual. To understand the completeness of Kriya Yoga within the human body we must briefly consider these aspects and the impact of Kriyas on these aspects.
The word Kriya means action or to complete an action to achieve a specific result. That result is Yoke.
Yoke means union. Yoga is the technique to attain Yoke. What is this union (yoke)?
Union is with the self, soul, nature, cosmos. Whatever you want to call it, the word “Union” speaks for itself. Kriya Yoga connects that which is carried within the breath to the cosmos and vice versa.
This Union is a natural flow with life's energy frequencies or cosmic frequencies. These frequencies are widely accepted formulas and principals of science.
This Union can be equated with “Union with God.” This union is non-religious. I have used the word God in an effort to express the sacredness of such a union. There is no dogma or black magic attached to this. It is a union which is simple and humble. It is a togetherness of oneself and yet a connection to all. It is the unification of Ego with Divinity.
Union cannot be practiced or achieved. It descends as a flood of awareness within the conscious, subconscious and unconscious. This awareness can be cultivated with Kirya Yoga and Meditation.
In ancient Hindu texts known as the Patanjali Yoga Sutras there are three types of Kriya; asceticism (self-discipline), study and devotion. We can relate these three as:
Asceticism – physical
Study – mental
Devotion – spiritual
However, the Kriyas themselves are six. The Kriyas can be ascribed to the techniques.
Physical is of course the solid form of our body. Both the internal and external solid parts. Physical is achieved by way of stretching your body to the capacity it can at the level you are at today based on simple instructions. Kriya is for anyone. No prerequisite is required nor any yoga training. If you are physically challenged be sure to know there is still a physical form of kriya you can do.
During Kriya mental blockages come into our conscious awareness and are released through prana or breath. Breath awareness takes the focus off the physical or externals.
Devotion is the offering of the inhaling breath to the exhaling breath this is called prana, and the offering of the exhaling breath to the inhaling breath is called apana.
Through the act of breath awareness Kriya utilizes the maximum amount of breath flow in and out the body to neutralize or bring to balance the inhaling and exhaling breath. This translates to the maximum amount of oxygen flow.
Combining the three aspects of the human body into one steady life flow brings many benefits. This yogic science is said to decarbonize and recharge the blood cells. The extra oxygen transmutes into life current to rejuvenate the brain and spinal centers. Kriya slows the decomposing process of the body, strengthens the immune system, heightens awareness of self and others. The benefits are immense compared to the understanding and simplicity of the practice.
Life current can be ascribed to, that which sustains the human body in totality without the use of the human organs or any externals such as food. Yes, there are people in India that have been known to live a long healthy life without the benefit of food or water.
Life current also energizes and electrifies your aura. Your aura is comprised of the five invisible sheaths called the koshas or (kosas).

When disease occurs in the body be sure to know it was already present in the aura.

Meditation
The word meditation has been flagrantly overused, marketed and pauperized. Meditation is not about being focused, repeating mantras, listening to soft music, being in a quiet space, etc. on the contrary, these are all techniques used to cultivate a meditative state. These techniques, if not practiced with awareness, often lead to imagination disease.
Imagination disease is a state in which you can relate an inner mystical experience in mind-boggling detail. The experience changes with more fervor according to whom you are relating the experience too, and how often you repeat it.
A meditative state is simply indescribable. It is a connection and union with an expanded state of awareness. It is a feeling of something higher than yourself as a human.
In this state, a drop of wisdom translates into a multi-dimensional understanding.
Some things in the universe will always remain a secret. All life must honor that moment when one realizes that no matter what the human man discovers, there will always remain an element of mystery and secrecy to the cosmos. Like any secret, we must respect that the Universe would not like you to know in this moment.
When meditation occurs, the experience will not escape you.
To practice meditation, you must first release your motive for meditation. This applies to yoga asana also. To gain the most of your practice, you must first drop all motive. Even if that motive is to save mankind.
Kriya in conjunction with meditation expands your awareness cultivating true meditative states resulting in overall health and wellness.
The aligning of the body, breath and mind, combined with your natural internal and external sounds, brings a completeness and unity to the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of yourself.
Self-understanding flourishes into self-acceptance. Self-acceptance flourishes into self-love.
Ashta has experienced Yoga from a young child born into a bhakti yogi family and jnana yogi family. In her adult years she spent some time in India exploring and experimenting with varied Yoga techniques. The combination of Kriya and meditation especially interested her. The capacity for one to gain awareness through this combination, definitely shaded any other yoga technique she had experienced over the years.
Her initiation into Kriya yoga happened on the seventh day of a 21-day sadhana she embarked on. Kriya initiation is said to be given to you by your earthly Guru or it comes to you through a spiritual Guru. Ashta receives her from her spiritual Guru. During this initiation a mantra was revealed to her.
Kriya yoga & Meditation is offered as a class maximum of 6 or as a private session.
All sessions end with a short Q&A
